Just the Facts Please

It seems to me that the world is now searching for facts and everyone has their version of what the facts are. We have been told that it is a fact that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction that must be destroyed, most of the nation accepts this as fact even though we have not seen any real proof. Some people are verbally attacking France because they see that it is a fact that France is not being a ‘good buddy’ and are forgetting that the United States pulled their asses out of the fire during WWII. It is a fact that this administration does not particularly care about the consensus of the United Nations and appears to regard the UN with disdain as an obsolete organization which no longer has a right to be heard in the concerns of the world.

For the past weeks I have watched as people argue in chat rooms, on message forums and even my own living room. I have seen it written that if you are against the ‘war’ or if you protest for peace you are anti-American. If you voice an opinion that disputes the ‘Facts’ handed to us by Washington, you are a crybaby liberal who should be deported from this country. Yes I have closely watched the facts of this global situation and it seems that when all the ‘facts’ are considered there is but one 'fact' that remains the same, and that is people will hold true to what they consider the real facts to be. Americans will erroneously feel they can wrap themselves in the flag which will eliminate the need for them to think independently. They will cover their eyes and blind themselves to the realities that most would not accept anyway.

The United States has covertly funded Iraq in many ways; these facts have recently been revealed, denied of course, but revealed none-the-less. Once again my memory recalls the past. The Pentagon Papers, The Iran-Contra affair, there have been so many and there will be so many more. Perhaps we should closely examine the Freedom of information act, or is that the Freedom of disinformation act?

I consider this a fact ...the United States is perceived now as the Bully of the world, where once we were the heroes.
Personally I have not been convinced that there are any factual reasons to go to war with Iraq, and it has occurred to me that for the first time in the history of the United States, barring the civil war, we are actually inciting a war. No one has asked for aid as they did with Vietnam, Somalia, even the last Gulf war, where at least the fact was that Iraq had invaded and was attempting to destroy and conquer Kuwait.

I have watched and listened as the democratic party and the republican party lay the blame for our problems at the feet of each other, but the fact is this is not a Republican or Democratic issue. The pending war with Iraq is not a partisan issue but a humanitarian issue.

This is of course my opinion, the ‘facts’ as I see them. I will continue to voice my facts and I will continue to probe those facts which are handed to me to accept without question. I will applaud any country or person who has the courage to stand up for their beliefs and that those voices will shout loud enough to be heard. I will wonder if we are all being led like lambs to the slaughter without rhyme or reason and I will ask myself "has this country become so self-involved, so full of our own power because our administration consider themselves to be the world power, and the last hope of mankind that as a people we have lost our ability to see the facts and can only see the Power? Will we forget that power corrupts, and that absolute power of course will corrupt this country absolutely."
