Download- To download a file is to request it from another computer. While surfing the web, the amount of data downloaded is much greater than the amount of data that is uploaded.

Upload- Uploading is sending a file to a computer that is set up to receive it. While surfing the web, the amount of data downloaded is much greater than the amount of data that is uploaded.

Bandwidth- This is the reflection of the capacity of a given transmission channel. The greater the bandwidth the more information that can be transferred over that network at one time.

DSL- DSL is an industry acronym for Digital Subscriber Line technology which delivers high-speed Internet access. Using your existing telephone line, it delivers download speeds of up to 50 times faster than 28.8K modems. The service lets you send data and voice over the same line, at the same time so you can talk or fax while you access the Internet.

Kbps- Kbps stands for kilobits per second (thousands of bits per second) and is a measure of bandwidth.

Mbps- Mbps stands for millions of bits per second or megabits per second and is a measure of bandwidth on a telephone line or other medium.

Throughput- In data transmission, throughput is the amount of data moved successfully from one place to another in a given time period.

LAN- Local Area
Network. Is a group of computers and/or devices that share a common communications
line within a confined geographical area. |
